Craven Moorehead’s love for music began while he was growing up in Columbus Ohio and a friend introduced him to his first DEVO record in the fifth grade. That love then blossomed and soon Craven was spending hours a day skateboarding to the sounds of The Desendents, Dag Nasty,Gang Green and the Dead Kennedy’s. Soon young Moorehead discovered the record stores on The Ohio State campus and would trek 30 miles roundtrip on his bmx bike to shop at the likes of Schoolkids, Magnolia Thunderpussy and Singin Dog records. While record shopping one day Craven saw a flyer for a Black Flag show at a laundry mat called Marco Polo’s. Mr. Moorehead had never realized the bands he was being introduced to at the record stores actually toured and played in such intimate settings as campus laundromats. So he attended the show and was blown away by how the records he so loved came to life on stage.

These life changing events during Moorehead’s youth caused him to devote the rest of his life to music. He played in numerous crappy punk bands in high school, went to college and got a degree from The University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music and then headed west and landed a job in L.A. working at Westlake Recording Studio’s. Soon Craven discovered he had some old friends in Arizona who he visited and fell in love with the Desert. While popping around the dial one day he discovered a station called the Edge on the radio and decided that he not only found his favorite radio station but that he was determined to get a job there. Once Craven got the Job he realized that the station not only played great music from his favorite alternative bands like the Pixies, Beastie Boys and Nirvana….but that they even had a show called The Skapunk Show that played some of his favorite punk tunes ! The host at the time was Larry Mac who would talk tunes with Craven and eventually give him the nod to be the new host once he departed. Now almost 13 years later Craven is still the devoted host of the Skapunk Show and devoted music fan working at X103.9.
