The Expendables and Slightly Stoopid met here in the valley at the Celebrity Theatre to deliver the desert dwellers a night of reggae fueled merriment. The entire placed seemed to buzz with excitement even before the first act came on. Fans from all over the valley came with extremely high expectations for Thursday’s lineup.
The party was sparked with a performance by The Expendables who took the stage at 8:00 PM. It took them only an hour to warm up the crowd for Slightly Stoopid to take the stage. They played tunes off of their albums No Time to Worry, Gettin’ Dirty, and Open Container. They closed with one of their better known songs “Bowl for Two”. The performance left the viewers with even higher expectations of the show than when they had first arrived.
Unlike most shows, the crowd was not left to sit and make their own entertainment during the down time in between acts. The theatre came complete with a DJ who kept the guests of the Celebrity Theatre entertained with even more reggae music.
Finally, at 9:30 Slightly Stoopid took the stage to continue the party. One of their opening tunes was “Officer”, which then lead into “Essay Loco”. That was followed by a rap performance from their singer who was silhouetted in an impressive display of lights. As the show progressed, Slightly Stoopid seemed not to be happy with playing the prescribed set list, and started taking requests from the crowd. After a few songs the traditional ‘first ending’ of the show came followed by a collective chant consisting of three all-too familiar words uttered by the crowd “one more song!” After a quick crowd surf from a few members of the band, only the guitarist and percussionist got back on stage for the encore (who were soon followed by the rest of the band as the song progressed). The percussionist retrieved a microphone and started beat boxing the beat to the song “I Couldn’t get High”. Finally the sow was wrapped up by a common favorite “Collie Man”. Everybody seemed to be buzzing with excitement… among other things.
