Angels and Airwaves at The Marquee

The dynamic duo of Say Anything and Angels and Airwaves came to the valley’s own Marquee Theatre to deliver the desert-dwellers a show only they could deliver. First to take the stage at 8:00 PM was Say anything who opened with “Hate Everyone”. That was soon followed by their slightly more uplifting tune, “Shiksa”. Next, came their all too familiar and delightfully raunchy single, “Wow, I can be sexual too”; there was not a person in the crowd who did not take pleasure in uttering every distinguishing line of the beloved single. Say Anything went on to deliver a high-energy yet gritty performance that left the fans with no complaints.
Now it was time for the main attraction, as the lights dimmed the noise of the crowd did the exact opposite. As the noise rose the anticipation grew until finally Tom Delonge and the rest of Angels and Airwaves took the stage. Greeted by a throng of fans all competing for their turn at the center spot on the rail up front they opened with a wonderfully angry tune “It Hurts”. More and more hands took a permanent spot in the air as the show wound its way on into the song “Hallucinations”, which was accompanied by an impressive display of strobe and colored lights that stayed in effect for the duration of the performance. Tom Delonge saw it fit relate to the audience by revealing that he had been kicked out of high school and his parents were divorced. This spoken interlude was a precursor to their encore which consisted of the songs “Breathe” and their single off of the 2006 We Don’t Need to Whisper album, “The War”. During their famous last song Tom Delonge took the opportunity to give a brief history of Angels and Airwaves, and introduced the individual members of the band. Upon completion of their last song the crowd was sent an affectionate farewell by Delonge and his band.
